What is Maven?

Maven is a grant matching tool for nonprofits. You tell Maven about your organization, and it identifies the foundations, corporate giving programs, institutional philanthropies, and government grant programs most likely to fund your work, ranked by fit and backed by evidence from public filings.

How does Maven find funders for my nonprofit?

Maven reads your public website and IRS records to understand your mission, programs, and cause areas. It then compares your profile against millions of grant records from foundation 990-PF filings, plus federal award data, to find funders who have supported organizations with similar missions, at similar grant sizes, in your geography.

What is the Grant Propensity Index?

The Grant Propensity Index (GPI) is Maven's 0–100 score for how likely a funder is to be a fit for your organization. It's a composite of four signals: mission fit, cause overlap, budget match, and geography. Every score links back to the filings it was drawn from.

Where does Maven's data come from?

Public sources: the IRS Business Master File, foundation 990-PF filings, nonprofit 990s via ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer, and federal award data from USASpending, NIH, NSF, and SBIR. Every source used in a match is kept on file so you can check it.

Does Maven work for small or new nonprofits?

Yes. Maven matches on your mission and programs, not just your funding history, so organizations with no prior foundation grants or 990s on file still receive ranked matches.
